La Te Da 360 Degree Pool ViewMy boyfriend and I just got back from a nice week long stay at the Island City House and found it to be perfect. We called the front desk and booked directly, which the way to go. I'm always nervous booking though on-line booking sites. The hotel is close to Duval Street, Mallory Square, shopping and great restaurants but far enough from the noise of down town. The staff was extremely nice and helpful with recommending boating trips, the best bars, to restaurants and reservations. We had a room in the Arch House. A nice one bedroom with a view of the gardens from our balcony. It was nicely decorated Key West Hotel, with a quite location, and more than enough room for two. Quality linens, well equipped kitchen with a stove, microwave, coffee maker, utensils, dishes and even a toaster. Funny the toaster came in the most handy when we actually made it downstairs in time for the free breakfast, which closes at 10 am by the way. Which is reasonable unless you stay out until 4am, which is how late the bars are open. Our town is shut down by 9pm where we're from, so we were waking up at lunch time most days. The selection of danishes, bagels, fruits, toast and english muffins was fresh and worth catching if can make it. The area they have for eating, if you don't just take it all back to your room is surrounded by orchids and tropical tress. This isn't the elcheepo hotel. Everything has a classy setting to it. Parking wasn't a big deal like we were told. We did show up on a Sunday during off season and only used the car one time during our whole vacation. You're close enough to everything to walk it. Exploring the other side of the island didn't result in anything other than a drive around. If you fly in don't rent a car, you won't need it. Being that we stayed out so late I have to say that the maid service is flexible and understanding. They always waited for us to go out for the day and never knocked on the door to wake us. Like I said we didn't get out most days until lunch time, around 1 in the afternoon. We were surprised to find we had maid service that late in the day. We would highly recommend the Island City House. There are a lot of hotels to choose from in Key West. With The Island City House, we chose the right one. It's just a few blocks off of Duval and all the downtown action. The Island City House is a colonial meets Caribbean hotel with a classical bed and breakfast type feel if that makes any sense at all. The rooms are big and furnished with high quality antiques. They're not luxury of today, but the best of high society in the past. Despite the age of the furnishings, everything is very well taken care of and in great shape. Rooms are clean and well air conditioned, which is hard to find in Key West believe it or not. Especially in the BnB's. The bathrooms are updated but still carry over the theme. The staff is eager to help out with everything from directions to reservations. They really seem happy to help you plan your day. They have weather updates from an internet weather station in the office, which was spot on every time. Our vacation was in June, and the pool and Jacuzzi were private in setting but also we didn't have to share it with hardly anyone. It was the off season, so we practically had the hotel all to ourselves. I hate crowds and I love saving money so I love off season. If you 're looking for an affordable stay within walking distance of everything, this is your best bet.
