Turtle Kraals Restaurant Reviews:
Having returned
recently from my vacation to Key West I am considering all my new
memories. I spent my vacation parasailing, deep-sea fishing, going to
the Butterfly Conservatory and more. It is difficult to pick out where I
had the best time. I do, however, always relive experiences based on
food!
While we ate out quite a bit, one place genuinely stands out. During our
first meal, we had such a divine experience that we went again.
We dined at Tower Bar at the recently reopened Turtle Kraals Restaurant
& Bar. The weather was gorgeous, perfect for enjoying a summer evening
outside. The view, sunset, and surroundings were unmatched. Service,
menu, and food were superb. We enjoyed cocktails first and took a few
minutes to review the menu. We chose the local favorite for our
appetizer. The mesquite grilled oysters on the half shell were
sumptuous; the cilantro was a unique and complimentary flavor. In
keeping with the surroundings, I then had Mango Crab Cakes for my main
course. The tropical additions of mango and key lime were inspired
choices for allowing the crab to shine! My friend chose the BBQ Pork
Platter. He had an enormous smile, sticky fingers and a dirty face when
he finished. Reveling in immersing himself in BBQ! While we did not have
much room left, we just could not pass up tasting another version of key
lime pie. This key lime pie was simply one of the best we sampled on our
vacation, and we sampled plenty.
What was missing during our first trip to Turtle Kraals was breakfast.
We looked at the menu and planned to return later in our trip. Having
experienced dinner, we could not pass up the opportunity to start our
day at Kraals. We arrived (pre-coffee) and were promptly seated in the
air-conditioned dining room and provided with coffee. Thank you! Being a
southerner, I needed the Big Biscuits & Gravy platter. I could have
bathed in the sausage gravy; instead, I merely lapped up every speck
with my biscuits. My friend chose the Huevos Ranchos. What a plate
appeared before him; eggs, tomatillo sauce, refried beans, and potatoes
with sour cream. He was not put off at all. He dug in and made his way
through the whole plate, all the while chatting about returning to
Kraals on our next trip to Key West.
