The Mermaid and the Alligator is masterfully decorated in the most beautiful of island motifs. We felt right at home as soon as we walked threw the front door. Several rooms in the mansion are set up specifically with relaxation in mind. We found it so easy to snuggle up in one of the comfortable chairs , borrow one of the Mermaids many books and take a load off. If we wanted some Florida weather we bound outside in the tropically landscaped yard. After inquiring about the splendor of the gardens one of the guests informed us that he was a professional horticulturalist. You usually have to go to a place like the Audubon House to get this sort of beauty. Lucky for us it came free with the room. The breakfast part of this bed and breakfast was top shelf. It was a hot breakfast. The amazing waffles, delicate quiches, stacked pancakes, and so on, made this a great treat. We also received a cocktail hour in the afternoon. The wine tasted even better because it was free. We were also welcomed to the fridge where e found plenty of soft drinks. I couldn't stop gushing to my husband about the owner, he is such a nice guy, he never talked our ears off just inquired  to our happiness and requests, as well as answering any questions we might have had. Maggie, was a joy to be around, she will arrange everything for you. Part of the fun of staying in a destination like this is gathering up all the brochures they offer you as well as the suggestions and copping a squat with a glass of wine to plan away. At lease we like it that way. Maggie was clear that she would handle everything if we wanted her too including making the decisions and scheduling if you just did not want to deal with it. Just a great person! I found this site and virtual tours and pictures are right on the money. The number on this site really is the front desk at the Mermaid, you can book directly. By the way it does look like the brochure for once! We will be back!

The Mermaid and the Alligator Key West is more than wonderful, it is the best place we have ever stayed at in Key West or anywhere else for that matter. The breakfasts were actually hot and fantastic, we relaxed with a glass of wine on the porch early in  the afternoon and sometimes later That little extra something really made our stay. The weekend we stayed with them was phenomenal, not only the weather but the property! We are definitely going back to Key West and staying at the Mermaid and the Alligator, but this time we are staying for more than four days, we are going to try for eight. We loved, loved, loved, the Garden Room it was a slice of heaven. This accommodation was of the very finest, highest quality Bed and Breakfasts we have ever seen and we have been all over the world. Highly recommended this place!
