I come down to Key West from Miami for the occasional weekend getaway with my girlfriend. It's a beautiful drive and it's a really fun place to hang out. Depending on whether we're looking to party the nights away or lay out on the beach all day determines where we choose to stay. I heard the Silver Palms Inn was being built from scratch on the old El Rancho property which is right around the corner from South Beach. This time we were into lazy days in the surf and sand so we decided to find a hotel that was at this end of Duval. I have a nice car and one the worse things about Key West is finding a place to park when your lodging doesn't have a place to park your car or they charge an outrageous fee. Not only does this Inn have off street parking, but it's covered. I didn't even realize it was covered until I arrived to check in. This was a pleasant surprise. The accommodations themselves are very nice and clean as you'd expect from a newly built establishment. Few hotels have a pool down there and this one has a modern pool with a waterfall and cushioned loungers. Most resorts still use the old metal loungers with the sticky rubber straps which become uncomfortable after a while, so it was a pleasant surprise to find such comfortable chairs and a place to get some sun. Rates are affordable and service is friendly. I'll be staying here again.
