ReviewsThis was my first vacation in a year. My husband along with our 14 year old son and my mom. We decided on staying at the Doubletree Grand Key Resort in Key West instead of staying in oldtown because of the price for the level of quality and the rooms are larger than the small hotels and bed and breakfasts in oldtown. We had a large two room suite which really ended up saving us a ton. The staff at Doubletree provided excellent service and the cookie at check-in was like coming home to Grandmas house. For a national chain hotel they really make an effort to make their guests feel at home. Additional toiletries, towels, pillows and anything we requested was provided for us expeditiously. Throughout our six night stay at the hotel, the staff was attentive to our every need. The pool is spectacularly luxurious with a zero entry on one side, which is like a ramp into the water to mimic walking into the water at the beach. It's long and wide so laying there half in the water half out was ultra relaxing. Speaking of the beach, the Grand Key is near the largest beach on the island (Smathers) which has an extra wide side walk that leads all the way back to the hotel. We walked down to the beach the first day, which was about a half mile and took about 20 minutes. Between the hotel and the beach is almost entirely ocean so the view is beautiful if you like scenery wile you walk. We drove down the other days. That was all the driving we did however because the Grand Key has a shuttle that takes you to oldtown every hour. This was convenient and we were able to enjoy a few cocktails without concern for the drive back to the hotel. A car isn't necessary if you fly in. If you get in a hurry to go downtown and call a cab it will cost you about $15 each way, so utilizing the free shuttle is worth a small wait. They drop you off at the Conch Republic Seafood Company which is a great restaurant. The Doubletree Grand Key Resort is the best priced resort/luxury accommodations in Key West. We were very pleased with everything.
For a resort in Key West, we felt the Doubletree Grand Key Resort was an exceptional value. The property itself was in excellent condition from the exterior to the rooms and pool area. The staff was polite and friendly. The pool and hot tub area was extremely luxurious and tropical, as was the food and drinks from the bar. We watched the video and enjoyed cocktails and massages by the pool as well. Rooms come with a mini-fridge and mini-bar, which is great for soda or beer. We brought along a couple of our favorites and picked up some soda so we had a full bar ourselves. A free copy USA Today is waiting for you each morning and the restaurant has great food all day. Overall we loved our vacation and this very well run resort is in our opinion the best deal for high quality lodging at very reasonable rates. Especially in Key West.
We love Key West and go down there as often as we can. We live in Miami so short, last minute vacations for weekend are our forte. For the price (a Hilton owned property) The Doubletree is awesome. Free shuttle eliminates the fact that they aren't downtown and that's what you're saving so much on. That is the only reason they are priced so low for such a nice hotel. If they were down by the other resorts in Oldtown they would be twice the price. When you look over your options in Key West of guesthouses, resorts, and bed and breakfasts, the Grand Key resort in a no brainier hands down.
We stayed at the Doubletree hotel for four nights in January. This hotel is very accommodating and they care about your satisfaction a great deal. Our room was pleasing and smelled like new. I hate musty smelling hotels. The pool area was never over crowded and provided ample cushioned loungers and even cabanas. We felt like royalty sitting in the cabanas and having the cocktail waitress bring us drinks. The pool is in a lush tropical setting and there are plenty of areas to catch some sun if you desire to return home with a tan. Amenities I found others had not mentioned where; an exercise room with treadmills, weight machines, and two computers with free internet access 24/7. The complimentary bus shuttle is very dependable on the hour, you could set your watch to it. They try very hard and it shows in everything. For the rates they charge you more than get your monies worth.
The Doubletree Grand Key Resort in Key West is highly recommendable based on it's value compared to other resorts in Key West. We stayed here for nine days last March and I came here looking for reservations to go back. Outstanding service from the entire staff as well as fantastic rooms. Shuttles provide transportation to and from oldtown every hour free of charge which is an amenity not found with other hotels. You won't need to rent a car unless you plan on driving up the keys, which we did and turned around to head back after thirty minutes. If you have a convertible, great weather and enjoy the caribbean waters around you as you go over the bridges I have to say it's quite a drive. The islands of the Keys north of Key West however are mainly residential. I read a review about the lack of complaints and a few invalid ones. I couldn't agree more. I don't understand complaints about free shuttles running every hour and silly things. If you're in that much of a hurry on vacation I feel sorry for you. The pool is as nice as they say and despite the virtual tours looking great, they come nowhere near being there in person. It's slice of heaven on earth.
I stayed at the Doubletree with my husband and six year old son for five nights in June. We found the resort hotel to be wonderful and have nothing but praise for it. The room was beautiful and the beds were flat and in new condition. They were comfortable and conforming to your body once you laid down on them. We slept very well. We found the room and bathroom to be immaculately cleaned by maid service daily. The level of service from beginning to end never faltered. The mini bar was ample and well priced compared to the other hotels we've been gouged by in the past. If they have availabilty, the Cypress House is typically where we stay for the ideal location in Old Town and level of quality that's as high as this place. The buffet breakfast in the restaurant off of the lobby was also reasonably priced for the quality of the food. I love fresh biscuits and gravy in the morning and they had biscuits that would melt in you mouth without the gravy at all, which was....gravy! The pool and hot tub were surrounded by palm trees and bungalows. There was also a small man made beach near the pool that my son just loved. This was something I'd never seen anywhere else and other resorts should take notice. The expense for the accommodation compared the enjoyment of the guests would make it a must have for any family oriented resort hotel. I was jealous of the poolside massage on the video and dreamt about that for weeks prior to leaving. I had one the day we arrived and one the last day we were there. A must do. The poolside bar and was also reasonably priced and they had food from the restaurant inside available as well. The Doubletree gets an A from us and we'll be staying there when we visit Key West.
We only stayed at the Doubletree Resort for two nights in April and wish we would have been able to stay longer. If we didn't have prepaid flights we would have extended our stay. The staff was courteous, their standard rooms are spacious, nicely appointed and very well maintained. We felt they provided much more value and quality in their product than the price reflected. We partook in the complimentary shuttle to oldtown and return to the resort. Another service we were very satisfied with. We enjoyed breakfast each morning at the restaurant which was a buffet style. Again an exceptional value for the quality.
Stayed at the Doubletree Grand Key Resort with my children last week. This is a family and pet friendly hotel in Key West that is a step above the others in the area for the same if not lower prices. It's not downtown but that was fine for us. We have young kids so bar hopping isn't what they're into for now. They have a shuttle that drops you off in oldtown right next to the sunny days catamarans. They take daily trips out to the reef. Now this was something the kids were into. There's an aquarium in the lobby they were enthralled with and it was like swimming in the aquarium the next day out at the reef. If you go to Key West for nothing else, take your kids and yourself out to the reef. It's the only real living coral reef in North America and is a true wonder to see. The ladies behind the front desk were kind, the rooms were large and stylish. The beds were comfortable and provided ample jumping up and down for the kids for the first hour we were there. Noise was never and issue, from outside of our room anyway. The hotel is solid concrete construction so it well insulated from the noise from floor to floor and side to side. We couldn't have asked for more than we received for our vacation.
We had reservations for three nights at the Doubletree Grand Key Resort in Key West and enjoyed every minute of our stay. We were however winging it on the remainder of our vacation to Florida and had planned on grabbing the ferry to Ft. Myers and messing around there for a couple of days. We had too much fun (not really possible according to my wife) and stayed out until 4am on our last night in paradise. So of coarse we missed the ferry boat the next day, which was fine as we were not in much of a mood for a boat ride anyway. We were forced to sacrifice and stay another night at the wonderful Grand Key. The next morning after a night of rest like normal folks, the concierge for the resort helped us get a rental car and even called for a pickup. They printed road map to Ft Meyers for us and I didn't even ask. This was the level of service I don't see often even in the finest of hotels. Their obvious pride in customer service and quality sets the bar high for other hotels in the area, who have fallen well short of in past stays elsewhere. The hotel is exquisite and the the decor is Margaretville sheik. They provide an hourly shuttle that goes downtown also, so not staying downtown wasn't even an issue. Great place.
I wanted to send my review in to say I loved the virtual tours and video you have of The Doubletree Grand Key Resort in Key West and we had an enjoyable vacation here as well. I hope others read this and find this hotel as wonderful as we did. We planned this vacation six months ago and read all of the reviews on this site and others. I was concerned with some negative comments I found, but they were from seemingly snobby people who complained about things like the shuttle only running on the hour. We didn't find the shuttle "only" running on the hour inconvenient in the least. The opposite in fact. It was great to get a ride downtown and back for free. Stay elsewhere and pay for cabs, or deal with parking and then complain about a free shuttle running every hour. We were happy with everything. The service at the front desk from start to finish was polite and professional. As promised in the video, we received our home made chocolate chip cookies. We enjoyed several meals in their restaurant and more than our share of drinks at the bar overlooking the pool. The pool area was extravagant with the cabanas and setting it was like Fiji. The entire resort was clean and meticulously maintained. If you want a high class hotel in Key West and want to pay the same price as the little bed and breakfasts in oldtown, then stay at the Grand Key.
