El Meson De Pepe
Restaurant Reviews:
A trip to Key
West offers the traveler many things. When visiting you will have the
ability to stand at the southernmost point of the United States and
watch the sun rise or set on the water. You can enjoy beautiful beaches
and crystal blue waters. You can visit tourist spots or local hangouts,
all in perfect weather. However, one of the best things about Key West
is your chance to indulge in superior Cuban styled food.
El Meson de Pepe is a family owned Cuban restaurant that has been a
mainstay in Key West for over 20 years. Chef Pepe still cooks the
fabulous meals that encompass the Cuban and Conch (name for Key West
natives) style of food. Cuba and Key West are only 90 miles apart, and
have shared a long history of camaraderie. Over time this friendship has
created a distinct type of food only found in Key West.
The menu at El Meson de Pepe is filled with Cuban delights. You can
start your meal with a famous Mojito, a cocktail created in Cuba that is
made with mint, lime and rum.
Follow your cocktail with a delicious appetizer. There are many to
choose from, but the Conch fritters, a Key West specialty are a must for
all visitors. Dinner selections combine all the wonderful flavors
associated with Cuban food. Spicy peppers, ground meats and tender
seafood, all combined to create a masterpiece meal. Once you have eaten
your dinner, follow it with a piece of Key Lime Pie. Cuban coffee is the
perfect compliment to the pie. Other Cuban desserts are offered such as
coconut flan or tropical ice cream for those who don’t like pie.
The menu at Pepe’s offers something for everyone. There are Cuban
created salads, specialty soups and combination platters for those, like
me, who could not decide what to select. Children even have their own
menu selections that offer Cuban cooking or American favorites.
Once you have experienced the delectable food at El Meson de Pepe, you
will see why it has been a Key West establishment for over 20 years.
