Don’t want to drive all the way down to
Key West? Fly instead! The Key
West International Airport, known as EYW, is conveniently located just 2 miles
from downtown. Several airlines have regular flights to Key West including, but
not limited to, Delta, Continental, and American Airlines. This airport is more
than your typical airport. Key West has had an airport since before the Pearl
Harbor bombing, but it wasn’t until 1953 that they changed their name to the Key
West International Airport. You arrive at the old terminal building built in
1957. Don’t worry they have recently upgraded the terminal so you have all the
amenities. There are several car rental agencies counters located in the
terminal including, but not limited to, Avis, Budget, and Hertz. For those that
do not wish to rent a car the airport has shuttle services available to take you
to your hotel, or you can use the island's magnificent public transportation
system which has buses leaving regularly throughout the day.
Once you have finished your wonderful stay it is time to fly back home. You will
be departing from the new terminal that opened in 2009 more than doubling the
terminal’s space. The airport requests that you arrive two hours prior to your
flight to check in. Take a moment while you are waiting in line to look up. You
will find a sculpture of an old time airplane hanging from the ceiling. Once
through security you will find plenty of places to sit. Also, for your
convenience you will find a restaurant located by the ticket counters so that
you do not need to miss a meal while you wait for your departure flight to take
off. Enjoy your travels through the Key West International Airport.
