The Westwinds Key West bed and breakfast is
kind of like its own complex consisting of several different buildings that
range in style and size. When we booked our room we were told we were to expect
a complimentary continental breakfast. Since the room rate was so good the
lovely breakfast was such a bonus. We had a choice of juices, hot coffee, fresh
Danish pastries, a various fruit selection and several different types of
cereal. Not only were we pleased with the great location, but we were pleasantly
surprised when we realized that it was the right end of Duval street that we
were close to. When you vacation in Key West being near the more touristy end of
Duval street is a big plus. And usually a plus you have to pay dearly for. It
was never an issue for us that they do not have any parking, and it shouldn't be
a problem for you because of the Westwinds location to everything. The only time
you might want one is if you are a first time visitor to the Island, and want to
do some serious exploring. On the other hand all you need even at that would be
a rented scooter or bike. Everything remotely worthwhile doing in Key West
should and can be leisurely reached with a bicycle, walking or motor
scooter! The couple of pools always looked sparkling, and had plenty of well
maintained and comfy loungers and sitting chairs scattered about the pool decks.
Another cool thing to note is that your adequate breakfast is served to you
poolside. My room was equipped with what seemed like a wonderfully new bed and
fresh smelling linens. The bathroom was a tad on the smaller side but for a
historical property such as this the size was expected, and if it lacked size it
made up for it in history. This is a relaxing place to stay, you wont find a
television in the room but that was never a problem, remember you are on
vacation, you can always get your hands on the stock market in a week! The front
desk staff was warm, very professional. and polite. I would stay here again in
heartbeat.
My boyfriend and I took a trip to Key West in the summer and booked a stay with
the Westwinds Inn. It was one of the best choices we have made on a vacation
yet, not to mention one of the best deals. Since it is situated just a few blocks away from the all to wonderful Duval
Street and literally a four minute walk to the marina where we caught many of
our excursions. This was extraordinarily convenient for us because we didn't
come to Key West just to drink and nurse our hangovers, we went diving almost
every day and took full advantage of all the water sports. The little area by
the boardwalk next to the docks had lots of stores and restaurants. I severely
recommend upscale restaurant The Commodore, it is right on the water and can
satisfy your steak needs as well as a lobster craving you might have,
wicked awesome!! Dinner for the two of us including the two apps. and drinks was
less than 130.00 USD including the fifteen percent tip. For a really high
class dining atmosphere we thought it was a bargain. The two women who are in
charge of the front desk at the Westwinds were a blessing when it came to
everything we asked for. They must love living in Key West because they knew
everything about the island that we asked them and booked all of our trips
for us. Their referrals were exactly what we wanted to do. There names are
Maggie and Gabrielle, we found them to be so nice and they made sure we were
happy. Our day of snorkeling on the "Stars and Stripes" catamaran was amazing an
filled with adventure. The money it cost us was so worth it we will definitely
do it again. The boat itself was larger than it looked in the picture yet it
only takes out a dozen people at a time. The Captain took the best care of all
of us and he navigated our voyage to only the most special snorkeling spots. We
should note that the eighty dollars it cost us to snorkel these amazing spots
were better than the spots one of our other guides took us to dive. The Sunny
Days Catamaran trip was equally as wonderful and less money. They took out a lot
more people but was a bigger boat. The crew on both excursions were friendly and
very knowledgeable. The accommodations we had at the Westwinds was perfect
in every way and situated in a very private atmosphere. The room we had was very
clean and simply neat. The sparkling pools were great and maintained and
refreshing. The air in our room never let up and kept us cool even in the
hottest part of the summer. The free breakfast we got with our room was perfect
to start the day with. We had a choice of fruit and muffins, yummy bagels,
yogurt, choice of several juices. We really enjoyed ourselves while staying at
the Westwinds and since we explored the island thoroughly we checked out some of
their competition for fun. They were simply the best in our opinion.
