I spent a lot of time looking for a bed and breakfast in Key West. I liked the website so I called to ask the usual questions and they were delightful and almost treated me like they wanted me to come down for a visit. Many of the places I called acted like I was bothering them asking for available dates. I reserved a room in the Arch House on the first floor. The Arch House is the one that faces Eaton Street. I had 2 bedroom suite with kitchen and a sitting room. The room was nicely appointed with all the usual amenities. The front desk staff has as many rave reviews as the hotel does. They gladly helped us find the best activities and like everyone else, we rented bikes. We were a short walk to convenience stores and a little grocery store too. Key West has great restaurants and the best ones are all close by. This was our second vacation to Key West and we enjoyed the ambiance and how convenient everything was to the hotel. There are so different bars and restaurants there, that you could easily stay for a month and not see them all. The beaches get a bit of a bad rap. They are small, but it is a small island. Compared to most around the country they are outstanding. Just a bit under par for Florida standards I suppose. We spent our beach time on Smathers Beach which has nice fine sand, volleyball nets, facilities, hammocks, and is very large even for other destinations. It's about a mile long and we thought it was a great beach. The sand was white and the water was blue/green. What's not to like? We also did the Duval Crawl as locals call it and hit the bars. No matter the music, style, crowd, or drinks, there is a bar for you in Key West. They have many of them too. I would definitely recommend Island City House for your stay here. I will stay here myself.
I have always wanted to take a vacation to Key West. My friends say it's touristy it is, but I trusted my better judgment and See A Room Key West and went there last weekend. I picked up a book called: How to Quit Your Job and Move to Key West. I'm studying hard. I'll use it and my memory of fun times on the island to get me by times in the city. I'll be back and be staying at the Island City House. They encompass everything this great place is about and they're not way over priced.
Our family watched the videos and virtual tours on just about every property listed here on See A Room. We ended up choosing The Island City House based on the rave reviews and most of all because they have 2 room suites. This saved a ton of money over getting 2 rooms anywhere. It was perfect. We had a deck that set the mood for cocktails in the sun. Comfortable firm beds are ital to a good nights sleep anywhere we stay. I can sleep in a bed that has lumps or divots. The continental breakfast is plenty to get you by until lunch time. There's plenty close by and activities for the kids were found easily every day. Keeping an 11-year old entertained is not always easy to do on vacation. They were safe on the property and found the grounds of trees and gardens entertaining. The boys chased lizards like they were going out of style. Other than that they were either enjoying pool or playing with the local cats. Like most, we rented bikes for the family and this is by far the best way to get around Key West if you don't feeling like walking everywhere. I know we saw a lot more of the island by doing this. Leave the car parked where ever you can find a spot. You won't need it staying at the Island City House. The Shopping, bars, restaurants, and best beaches are all within easy walking or biking distance from the hotel. Mallory Square was a lot of fun during sunset. Catch the show with the house cats doing circus tricks, it's a trip! At the end of the day on our vacation, we were happy to go home to the Island City House. The whole family was very happy with everything.
We based our entire vacation completely off of See A Room Key West reviews and virtual tours. The Island City House was our choice for our trip to Key West and it was the right one for sure. The video sold us. The hotel is just unreal. Spectacular gardens and setting. It was like stepping onto a movie set or an attraction at a theme park! The grounds are full of flowers, exotic plants, and tropical trees that make a canopy over the property. Brick pavers set up in pathways to our room in the Cigar House, to the pool, and main office. Our room was on the ground floor, just off of the pool. We opened the French doors off of the room we were again taken back by this incredible setting! It was surreal and the hammock we had seen on the virtual tour was right there. The photos and virtual tours are nice but seeing it in person is different. No picture could ever say it right. The bedroom was spacious and had sliding pocket doors, a kitchen complete with full size fridge and a stove. Everything you need for living permanently, not just a short vacation. We woke up to breakfast every morning to start our day off in paradise. Sounds funny but one of my favorite things about the hotel was the housekeeping service. They never once banged on the door to wake us up and when we slept in they waited for us to go out. Some mornings we didn't get out in time to get breakfast and we were sure our room was not going to be cleaned, but it was to our surprise. Now for the location! This hotel is in the prime local. It was a short walk down to Duval and everything you want to see. Although it's so close to everything, the grounds and setting you feel as if you were far away from everyday life and in your own tropical paradise! It's like stepping off of the island of Key West and onto a different Island. The Island City House. The name is fitting. We loved it.
