It used to mean that only the rich could afford Ocean View hotels in happening spots like that of Key West. Not anymore. Supply and demand. When you have an island with so much oceanfront coverage and a plethora of accommodations dotting the coastline, prices  become competitive. Lets face it, looking at the back yard of some supermarket has its appeals, but waking up to the pristine views of unspoiled ocean cannot be beat. Variations of blues and greens vividly depict an atmosphere of astounding proportions. Staying in an oceanfront hotel might cost slightly more than that coveted parking lot view but the gains are immeasurable. You can be a million miles away when you open that slider and inhale the fragrant intoxicating ocean breeze. The sights will warm you and the smell, well that's were the real story is. Inhale the same air that just hours before wafted over the island of Cuba, traveled past the migrating whales and landed in your ocean front hotel room. Duval street runs across the island from east to west and there are great resorts on either end. It's the main drag running through the center of old town and offer spectacular views of the ocean at either end. Staying at the southern end will provide sunrise views and more of a quiet atmosphere. Walking down to the other end for the sunset and views of the Gulf are easy and usually accomplished by simply exploring the street during your stay. Depending on how close you want to be to all the action and the bars that stay cranking until 4am, will determine which end you stay. If you're ok with foregoing the views of the water, then a cheap alternative is staying near by in a smaller bed and breakfast or motel. Getting out on the water for some snorkeling or a sunset cruise is a must while your here on vacation. The Caribbean ocean water off our shores are inviting and mesmerizing.
