La Mer and Dewey House Key West Reviews
I took a vacation with my
sister in Key West for a few days. We scoured the internet for a great deal on
accommodations and read as many reviews s we could. We picked the La Mer and
Dewey House and found it to be a hotel. We booked with them and got the best
price directly over the phone. We did not mind paying the relatively little
price for such amazing amenities and location, especially due to the breakfast.
The breakfast was so good! John Cline is the gentleman who
overlooked our breakfast and tea time during the stay and I must say he was
outstanding. John went out of his way to make sure everyone felt welcome. We
asked and looked for John because he was so helpful with the information we
needed to know on key west and the hotel facility. The hotel shares a pool with
their neighboring property the Southernmost Hotel on the Beach as well as the
pool at the southernmost hotel. All of these pools were huge, wonderful, and
very inviting! All the hotels themselves look lovely. Maybe next time we will
try one of these. Our room was so unbelievably beautiful and done so
tastefully. Detailed attention was given to every aspect. The service at all the
properties were excellent. The hotel is on the beach. The sand and the sea
beckoned us out onto our veranda every day. We were mesmerized by it! We rented
special umbrellas and loungers to lazily enjoy it every day! The ocean water was
warm and clear. Since Key West doesn't have large waves you could lay on a raft
and float on top of the ocean. We used the different pools and went to Zachary
Beach on one of the days, it is a lot bigger and still very close. Every day was
fabulous. The state park otherwise known as Fort Zachary Taylor has eating and
bathroom facilities. This wonderful hotel is located near everything and the
more quieter part of town. I would definitely recommend staying there and look
towards the future so we can stay there again.
I virtually stumbled across The La Mer hotel on the internet, originally I tried
to get a room at another hotel for a weekend getaway with my wife. But the
booking agency I went threw messed things up. We started to do research on our
own on the internet which is how I found this site. We liked that we were given
all the information we needed to know at a glace, yet were given the hotels
direct number. It was perfect for salvaging what was turning into a huge
headache. We chose the La Mer next door to the Dewey House. It was one of the
best decisions we have ever made. We walked into the hotel and instantly were
warmed and welcomed. The front desk is more like a swanky mansion living room
than a big overdone hotel foyer. I had my doubts at first because the price was
lower than we usually spend. I was surprised to find out that the atmosphere of
the property was actually nicer than the accommodations we have stayed in s of
late. Our room was very luxurious, and the bathroom was superior, and clean.
Beautifully designed and appointed rooms. The staff takes pride in this
property. I can not say tell you enough wonderful things about the staff, the
breakfast in the morning and afternoon teas, the amazing quality of the food,
and all this was included in our room rate. What a difference their location
makes verses central old town hotel locations, especially at night. We loved the
homemade ice cream parlor that was a few blocks away, and there was a Mosquito
coast wine shop not far either. We had way to much fun! The sandy beach outside
our room was a great to wake up, and not to mention to go to sleep with. We'll
stay here again most definitely.
We stayed at the Dewey House last week and fell in love with it! We have always
stayed at the other end of Duval, and never will again. We could easily handle a
leisurely stroll to the harbor and the bars at the louder area of Duval. We
actually walked back and forth at least twice each day! Not only was it a nice
walk for exercise purposes but we could stop off at any one of the interesting
hops and watering holes to get something neat. And this time we were only steps
from the Southernmost Point, and most of the museums we seem to always miss.
This guest house is the best ever! The minute we arrived we were taken in by
John Cline, the “innkeeper”. He was so helpful and informative. He just started
making great recommendations immediately. We laughed more in that first initial
meeting than we have laughed ever in a circumstance like that! And the room was
beyond gorgeous. Our room was the most perfect romantic setting right on the
beach that we have had the glorious time staying in since we went to Hawaii for
our honeymoon ten years ago. The room had lovely marble bathroom floors and a
huge Jacuzzi tub. Our guest room didn't have cold water coming out of the
spicket, only luke warm water, so we questioned it at the font desk. Evidently
we are on an island so their isn't any cold well water like we are used to in
the Carolinas. Silly us. It was just funny that this was our only complaint and
it was something that couldn't be helped! The bed linens absolutely
spoiled us enough that we have decided to start spending more on sheets! High
thread count equals the greatest sheets and make for a more comfortable bed. I
have never slept as good on any vacation as I did here! There was of corse a
daily maid service in the a.m. but then we got a turn down service in the
evening and they leave chocolates on the pillow. We were delighted in the
morning as the The La Mer and Dewey House also offer a delicious hot breakfast
of fresh neat pastries, not your average donuts or anything, and fruit, breads
and made to order Belgium waffles. To make matters more comfy they provide
a tea time in the afternoons with the yummy cheeses and crackers. Fresh fruits,
breads, and cookies are also great. The views from our room are awesome! The
beach, named appropriately South Beach, is behind the Dewey and La Mer and it is
a great place to sit and just relax in the morning before you decide to explore
the island. Since we had the use of several pools, we never were far from
refreshment. Truth be told we only used the large pool located next door
at the Southernmost on the Beach. It was a wonderfully large and inviting pool
and a the perfect way to cool-off after lounging on the beach all day! Truly, if
you choose this place you will be so happy! We recommend this place to anyone
looking to be spoiled! Not only are we headed back to Key West, but we are
planning on staying again at the Dewey House!
