My wife and I stayed at
the lovely Chelsea House in the winter for a week straight. We travel to the
Keys several times throughout the year but we had never stayed at a Bed and
Breakfast. Te pictures on the website SeeARoomKeyWest.com were so nice
that we thought we would to give this one a try. I spent days researching on
line and ended p always coming back to this site, and decided on the Chelsea
House. The main reason was because this bed and breakfast provided parking.
We did not need our car while we were here. But because we were riving down
we wanted it in a good location safely within our reach (It is an expensive
car.) We also chose this place due to the many good reviews we read about
the property all over the internet. I booked a queen sized room, newly
decorated I was told. Our guest room was extremely nice, located on the
second floor. We loved that we were in the front of the Chelsea so we could
people watch on Truman. The newly decorated room was so cute and clean. They
really did an outstanding job making it a little slice of paradise for us.
The bed and bedding were very comfortable, actually more comfortable than
the bed we had at home, I say had because we looked at the make of their
mattress and purchased another when we arrived back home. Because we booked
during Christmas we needed to change rooms mid stay to accommodate our
entire stay. The next room we moved into was in the back and was actually
allot bigger, with a king sized bed, a larger bathroom and was just as
beautifully decorated. At first we thought that moving rooms was going to be
a pain in the neck but because the two rooms were in different parts of the
property it almost felt like we had gotten two vacations mixed into one. We
loved the differences and experience of both rooms. The staff helped us move
everything and were just wonderful. The Florida Keys are a spectacular
place to be in December, trust me not all Christmases have to be snowy.
There is allot going on in the tropics and the trees are all decorated as
well as the streets and shops. New Years in
Key West will rival any party
you have ever gone to elsewhere in the country. Back to the Chelsea, our
rooms were very clean, we loved the staff, the location is amazing only
being two blocks from Duval, and the breakfast was nice by the spectacular
pool and gardens, we will stay here again!
The Chelsea House is a
very clean and quaint place to stay. They staffed very helpful and extremely
friendly people. The continental breakfast was wonderful. The cool, clean,
ample pool and gardens could not have been nicer. I was just one person so I
booked a fairly small but very clean room that of course was non smoking,
like all the rest of them. I could sit right outside my door and enjoy the
Florida breeze or have a conversation with a friend I had met on property.
The bed was just soft enough for me as well as the size of the room. Had I
been traveling with another person, it still would have been fine. I wish I
could have stayed more than two nights, next time I will stay much longer. I
was close enough to the nightlife on Duval to party to my hearts content for
forty-eight hours but far enough away to really get the peace and quiet I
sorely needed on my weekend getaway. I will stay here again.
My party and I got to the
Chelsea House really late at night. The staff helped us out and arranged
everything we would need for our late check-in. We thought everything was
great from the very beginning of our trip. Some Bed and Breakfasts require
you to arrive at a certain time, we liked that the Chelsea was run more like
a hotel, in that fashion. We chose to stay in several rooms in the main
house. The reason we wanted the Chelsea in the first place was because we
had read that this is one of those accommodations with an authentic
Key West Florida feeling yet had parking. Pleasantly surprised with the spacious rooms. Ours
had antique dark oak furnishings and a great, comfy bed. You could imagine
that Ernest Hemmingway penned 'The Old Man and the Sea' in a room much like
this, smelling the same great Key West air. The in room refrigerator was not
an antique thankfully, it served us well in our modern needs for afternoon
cocktails and left over storage. The bathrooms were typically Victorian in
nature yet not to small, but not very big either. Housekeeping was great
about keeping our rooms clean. After several days of hanging around the
island we found that we were really glad we had gotten so lucky as to find a
place like the Chelsea. It was so close to everything and definitely on the
right side of Key West for us. Breakfast fulfilled all of our hangover
needs and the coffee was extra good. A couple of days were spend just lazily
sitting by the inviting pool and garden area. We had such a relaxing time on
the sunning deck reading and swimming all day. One night we paid for one of
those manual bike taxis which cost us $15 per person, but well worth it.
Each night we found another great place to eat, the trick was to ask the
front desk person about the options first, that way you can get a locals
opinion. Crabby Dicks, was great for oysters, so was Alanzoes. Blue Heaven
is located in the back streets of Bahama Village and had a nice setting and
even better food. Sloppy Joes bar should be a drink stop only and bar food
if you need some sustenance. The Conch train was so great for all of us to
see Key West at the same time without someone having to drive. They narrate
thing well. Went on a Sunny Days sunset snorkeling trip which was massive
fun for the whole clan, drinking in the sights as well as allot of free
cocktails creates an experience well worth the doing. We thought Key West
was a top notch destination for our annual vacation, and one thing I forgot
to mention. If you have never seen the sights starting from Key Largo, you
really should it was amazing!!
