This was our first vacation to Key West and we were on a budget. I found this page searching for budget hotels in Key West. The name fit what I was looking for and the rooms looked fine so I booked it. We came down from South Beach Miami and staying there drained the finances. This was in April. The drive down was breathtaking coming over the bridges and we ended up getting there early. The staff welcomed us to check in early because our room was already clean. This describes the room well. It was clean and had a microwave and a mini-fridge. More than I had expected and the pictures don't lie. The bathroom was large for a big guy like me that's important. We walked down to Duval St. which only took about five minutes but it was hot so we promptly found a scooter rental place. This was a great way to get all around Key West and we rode the scooters all day and late into the night. We had a lot of fun. I didn't want to stay out all night like my husband. The little kitchenette was great for leftovers and that midnight snack after an evening closing out the bars. The bars stay open until 4am, so we had a few past midnight snacks or early morning breakfasts. The area this hotel is in is safe and on a main street. It's well lit and I would feel safe walking back from Duval alone at night. The scooter rental place gave us cable bike locks for the scooters and we just locked them to each other and to a pole and didn't worry about them. Being that they are right on a main road I was concerned about noise, but it was never enough to wake us up (even on non-drinking nights). You'll have a hard time finding a place to stay in Key West that isn't facing a street. We didn't spend much time in the room other than sleeping, so a clean room at a good rate was all we wanted. With that in mind we were prepared to stay in a chain hotel and the Budget Key West did not have that feel to it at all. Great value.
My husband and I stayed at The Budget
Key West over the weekend. We found them here on your site and I wanted to
write a review to let you know how happy we were with the room, the staff,
and everything about this great little hotel. I found them looking for a
place that was close to Duval and also had some island charm. The
accommodations at Budget delivered more than we had expected. We
checked in Sunday night and were warmly welcomed. We were tired from
traveling and the receptionist promptly checked us in. This really meant a
lot to us after driving all the way down from Tampa which was about an 8
hour drive. we found the room to be fantastic. We had a large bay window
which I've never seen in any other hotel. The budget is not like most
hotels. We were above the office with a view over Eaton Street. I was very
happy with our room and service. The kitchenette was very useful and I
didn't even realize it was in the room, so it was an addition nice surprise.
I wasn't expecting the amenities I found for a "budget" accommodation. We
love to pay less and get much more.
Key West has always been know for charging exorbitant rates for their hotel rooms. We've been going there for years and the rates are high. Supply and demand are in play here. I found what I feel is a jem. I this hotel on See A Room and reserved a room for 6 days. Take it from someone who goes down to Key West a lot, the Budget Key West is very rare. Their rates make them deserving of the name. I read the reviews and everyone wad thrilled with what they got for the money and I'm no exception. Everything in the reviews about it was right on. It was very cheap, but as far as Key West goes it was an absolute steal. Like other had written, the pictures looked great and for the price I was figuring they were of somewhere else. It was literally the cleanest place we have ever stayed in Key West. During our vacation to Florida this year we were on a budget but we've paid a lot more for places in less demand that pitched themselves as luxury and deluxe. The budget is class act all the way. The staff is nice and helpful, the location is perfect, and parking in the area is easy. It's only about a five to ten minute walk down to Duval. Duval is the main street in Key West where most of the restaurants and bars are. From the Budget if you walk about four blocks down and turn right you'll end up at the marina and some great waterfront bars and restaurants. Great seafood places line the boardwalk and docks around the marina. This is our new home away from home until they decide not to be "Budget" anymore. We love Key West. If you've never been, you may want to be careful. Everyone who lives there was on vacation at one time and they decided to stay. There's even how-to books on the subject. With the laid back island life, great setting, weather, and charm. You might be next.
